Girl Scouts Float at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

How exciting for our organization to be a part of the 90th anniversary of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! I remember watching it a lot growing up when I wasn’t helping to cook, and it was a great watch before all the football, naps, and cleanup the rest of the day.

Girl Scouts has created an awesome float, and along with it, some awesome stuff you can buy to remember this great occasion. This includes a patch, magnet, and a mug.

The patch itself is quite large. It’s 3″ x 3″ and can take up some valuable area on a vest or sash. Are you wanting your girls to actually do something to ‘earn’ or at least help them remember the patch? Here is a printable sheet of UNOFFICIAL requirements. It’s great for all ages and can be done at home with the family, and brought back to the next troop meeting.

Want to see an early look at the float? Here is a behind-the-scenes look:
The Girl Scout float was also featured on the Today Show!
A lot of Girl Scouts and their leaders had questions about the float which
GSUSA answered on their blog.
Want some more fun? Here are many things you can do to
celebrate this occasion:
  • Visit the Macy’s website to check out who’s going to be in the parade and watch some fun videos.
  • Fill out the activity sheet (shown above).
  • Watch the Macy’s Parade from 1927. Check out those differences!
  • Watch this video to find out how they make those giant balloons.
  • When you see the float in the parade, share on Instagram or Twitter with #GirlScoutsGiveBack
  • GSUSA has a few more things you can do over on their blog.
  • How about doing this coloring page of the float? Here’s mine:
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
